Today is a Public Holiday, its also the first day of the Private School holidays, which means some parents are already counting down the hours until they return to work or they are searching the interwebs for ideas of things to do with the kids. Hopefully I can help with the latter.
Shrek the Musical is currently showing at the Peoples Theatre (next to the Joburg Theatre). The show has been extended, but you need to hurry, because it is only extended until today! There are 2 shows – 10h30 and 14h30.
Shrek the Musical is based on the 2001 movie that we have all come to know and love. Jana Louw is the sassy Fiona and Andile Magxaki is the lovable grumpy Shrek.
Yamikani Mahaka-Phiri plays my favourite character – He plays the annoying, charming sidekick to Shrek, Donkey. Kyra Green, Palesa Makhalima, Thiart Li, Christoher Vale and Jessica Willmore (plus a few other kids) help bring the Musical to life. .
We have managed to watch the show (yes we left it late as well) and it was amazing. The whole family will enjoy it – the little kids will love it because its Shrek, Donkey and Fiona – Ladybug giggled and danced her way through the show. The older kids will love it because lets be honest, Shrek isn’t exactly the most polite ogre on the planet which of course brings out the giggles, and of the Adults will enjoy it too, there is a bit of South Africanisms thrown in for good measure.
If you not able to make it to the People’s Theatre today, don’t fear, the next Production starts on the 14th September and I will give you a little more heads up on that. I will also let you know more about the Kids Club, so keep an eye out for the info.
